About the Farmer.

My name is Stephanie Funk, but you can call me Farmer Stephanie. I have lived in Somers my whole life. I am mostly a home body type person but will go out for ice cream anytime! I love projects and learning (but rarely mastering) new skills. I grew up outdoors – playing in the yard, climbing a tree, working in the vegetable fields, running at the baseball diamonds, wading in the creek, and romping with the dog. In my young mind, it was a typical childhood but looking back I can recognize how lucky I was to have access to so many natural experiences and how important it was that I was encouraged to embrace them.

Now as an adult, running the farm has allowed me to work in the vegetable fields professionally. Each season I get to experience and share the joy of starting with a tiny seed, tending to the plant, and harvesting a lovely fruit or vegetable that will be a part of a nourishing meal for someone.

If you were to ask me what I do for fun now, I would say I play in the yard, walk my dog, and raise cows and pigs; I even climb a tree occasionally when a branch calls out to me.

My parents, Joe & Tina Funk also play important roles in the farm operations. Joe was raised around large gardens and small farms and has a passion for growing vegetables. He enjoys tinkering and building to make tasks more efficient. Tina spends countless hours in the kitchen ensuring that the family enjoys wonderful meals all season long. She also cans a great selection of jams, salsa, and relishes that you will find for sale.

About the Farm

The Funkin Farm is a Fresh to Market Produce Farm in Somers (Kensoha), Wi also offering a Learning Farm. The farm grows primarily vegetables and some fruits which are sold through various outlets directly to the consumers.

The farm began as a large garden and a modest roadside farmstand during Stephanie’s childhood.

Produce is still grown in very similar row style gardens with a great deal of care and attention to each plant throughout the season. Our crops include peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, onions, lettuces, melons, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, squashes, and much more!

Around 2019, Farmer Stephanie found a passion for educating others about farming and gardeing. This led to the opening of The Learning Farm to host all different types of groups.

With steady growth each year, The Funkin Farm is becoming a local favorite for accessing fresh and seasonal produce.
